Hey, want to do something awkward with a random Wednesday evening later this month? Got $15 dollars to spare?
Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, the Honourable Ratnasiri Wickramanayake will be at Asia Society (worth the trip just to check out its posh Upper East Side environs, I say) talking about how a country moves forward when 280,000 of it’s citizens are living in DP camps and the other 19,958,000 are scarred by 25 years of civil war. The event, which runs from 6 PM to 8PM on Wednesday the 24th, promises, if nothing else, to be controversial and more than a little bit awkwardly polite.
For Asia Society re: Sri Lanka, this is prime time coverage. Last time I went to a SL event, it was at 8 am. 8 AM!!! Needless to say, there were not so very many people there. This one looks to be better, and if you’ve never been to an event at the Asia Society, I recommend them highly.
